PESHAWAR: Curfew break in Parachinar after three days

Bureau Report

PESHAWAR, July 31: As tense calm prevailed in Parachinar, headquartersof the Kurram Agency, the political authorities relaxed curfew for an hour in the town on Thursday.

The authorities clamped curfew on the border town on Monday evening after an angry mob ransacked government offices in retaliation for the killing of a driver by the levy force.

The authorities gave a break in curfew from 10am to 11am to let the residents buy food after three days of curfew. The authorities gave the break only to the residents of the town and the people residing in surrounding villages were not given any relief.

The paramilitary forces have set up checkpoints on the Tal-Parachinar road to check the entry of miscreants. According to a local official, the situation was under control and paramilitary forces, backed by army troops, continued patrolling in the town.

As many 52 people allegedly involved in rioting have been shifted to the Dera Ismail Khan prison. However, those who were arrested for violation of curfew have been released.

The paramilitary forces were searching for those involved in acts of sabotage and attacks on public property. The political authorities have constituted a tribal Jirga to apprehend those involved in sabotage.

The Jirga has been provided with a list of all such persons wanted by the local authorities. The authorities have suspended their drive against thenon-custom-paid vehicles in the agency.
